- Story Text: Award-winning graphic designer Alex Swart has created this year's official commemorative Oscar poster.
The poster features a stacked, golden 2001, with the Oscar statuette replacing the numeral 1. The statuette is supported by a sweeping ramp, moving upwards to a line of large Oscars emerging from a dark blue background.
"I was looking for an unambiguous idea, dramatically executed on a grand scale. That felt like the right approach for the Oscar poster," said Swart.
It is Swart's first year as the Academy Awards® poster designer. Swart previously designed the Academy's retrospective "Best Picture" poster and five of the Academy's annual reports.
In 1996, Swart opened SwartAd, an entertainment-driven advertising and design agency based in Glendale, California.
His work includes designing marketing campaigns for television and movie studios. Last year Swart won two Promax World Class Awards for his work on "The Alfred Hitchcock Anthology" and "Universal Horror."
Next month over 13,000 posters will be distributed to movie theaters, video retailers, Oscar Night charity fundraisers across the country.
For the second consecutive year, the general public will be able to purchase the posters via the internet or mail order. The posters cost $20 each including tax and shipping.
International orders are $30 per poster. They can be ordered on the Academy's website www.oscars.org. April 13 is the final day to order the poster.
The ceremonies honoring film achievements for the year 2000 will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2001. The 73rd Annual Academy Awards Presentation will be broadcast live from the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium by the ABC Television Network, beginning at 5:30 p.m. (PST), preceded at 5 p.m. by the Academy's official pre-show. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
