  • Story Text: Final ballots for the 73rd Academy Awards have been mailed to California's 4,253 California based voters from Beverly Hills on Wednesday (February 28).
    The ballots contain lists of nominees in 18 of the Oscar categories, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress.
    The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) handed the ballots over to auditing firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers for a final tallying and address verification before the envelopes went to the U.S. Postal Service.
    Lisa Pierozzi, spokesperson for Pricewaterhouse Coopers, says precautions have been taken to prevent the lost ballot fiasco of last year.
    "We will turn them over to the Post Office here shortly and, as you can see, they're in gold trays so the Post Office will not be mistaking them for anything other than Academy Awards ballots," said Pierozzi.
    Ballots must be returned to the offices of Pricewaterhouse Coopers by 0100gmt on Wednesday, March 21, 2001. The votes are then tabulated by the firm and the winners' names are placed in sealed envelopes to be opened on Oscar night.
    The 73rd Annual Academy Awards will be presented at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium on Sunday, March 23, 2001.
