- Story Text: O-TOWN, the band created during the reality based show "making the band", held a record release party in New York. Attendees were treated to a performance from the newest "boy band" and they had their own part in the continuing saga of the rags to riches story of 5 American boys who made the big time.
After watching their first single turn "Gold", the five members of O-Town unleashed their new album on the public on Tuesday. J Records, the band's record label threw a grand party to celebrate the occasion.
The five members of O-Town were among thousands of young men who auditioned for a reality based television series "Making The Band", which aired last ykear. Over the duration of the the show's run the group was winnowed down to eight finalists.
The show's musical "survivors" were awarded a record contract, fame, and hopefully fortune. Nearly every word, action, and move were recorded by video cameras for the public to judge, as well as the band producers.
Now, six months after the five-man ensemble was picked, the band has entered the public eye as a real entity, ready to prove themselves tune worthy.
New York's Planet Hollywood hosted the party to celebrate O-Town's move from television sensation to "Top 40" pop sensation.
Hundreds of people who helped to make the new pop hit, along with a smaller amount of fans, crammed the club where they heard a free performance from O-Town and took advantage of free food and drink.
Young fans waited outside the club see the boys' grand arrival.
O-Town members say this is a realization of a dream.
"We really hoped it would come this far. This is why we were in it from the beginning was to make a music group, and to see it's success. and now with Clive Davis by our side. And the sales today of the first day of the album being released is very positive. We're excited."
They insist that they will not be categorized with other "boy band" sensations. "We're not really trying to go out and compete with anybody. We're just trying to go out and bring our music to the fans who have followed us from the beginning and do our thing, you know, we don't want to go out and do what's already been done. It's not really a competition for us. We're just going out and doing what we love to do."
No matter how the public judges their music, the fans at the party say this group has something no other band has...
graciousness. They faulted other current "boy bands" for their haughty attitudes, but, they say, 0-Town is always willing to extend a word of thanks to the people who helped them into the limelight.
"It's different, it's just nothing, not exactly like the Backstreet Boys or anything like that. I just think they're different and I really like the album and I really like them."
"I seen them sing before and I met them before and their attitudes are not as good as O-Town. They're cool.
They're really nice people. It's about being a person too, not all about being in the group. That's why I like them.
They're real."
Cameras have followed O-Town throughout the run of the tv show. For the five men who made the cut, the cameras continued to be a part of their everyday life, including the run of their U.S. mall tour, and throughout the making of their music video for their current single.
For now, the members of O-Town are enjoying their new-found fame and the adoring eyes of fans across the United States. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
