- Story Text: Millions of youngsters love the Powerpuff Girls -- cartoon tykes, who battle evil in their home city of Townsville. Now, thanks to brilliant merchandising and a new movie project, the girls are poised for world domination.
It's a simple concept: three little girls, who band together to protect their town. But something about the Powerpuff Girls' T.V. show has captured the world's imagination. Series creator Craig McCracken can't believe millions of people are watching his show.
One reason for the show's success: it's designed to appeal to both kids and adults. Kids love the girls' cuteness, and their wacky adventures. Adults love the strange, campy villains. Says McCracken: "Where the girls are kind of your foundation; you can't get too weird with them, you can't push them too far, but your villians you can do anything with, you can really go insane with them and I think people like characters like that."
Those characters are making their way into homes and classrooms everywhere, thanks to Powepuff Girls merchandise.
In fact, there's even a CD, featuring songs inspired by the show, and a music video, performed by the U.S. alterna-group "The Apples In Stereo." Now, Craig and his colleagues are sinking his teeth into an even bigger project: The Powerpuff Girls movie. The feature will likely be seen in more than a hundred countries and be translated into multiple languages.
