- Story Text: Donny Osmond was the teenage heart throb with a handsome face and winning smile who ruled the U.S. music charts during the bubble gum pop heyday of the 70's. Now Osmond has released an album in which he takes the best of broadway hits and adds a pop edge to them.
By the time he was a teenager, Donny had become one of the most successful stars in the history of pop music. With his sister Marie as his sidekick, he enjoyed co-hosting a weekly TV variety series, "Donny and Marie", that had solid ratings for many seasons.
Refusing to become a has-been child star, Donny Osmond made a successful comeback in the Andrew Llyod Webber musical, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat."
Now Osmania has struck again as Donny returns with his latest solo album "This is the Moment." It's a collection of songs, where Donny savors the best of a new generation of songwriters, who bring fresh energy to the musical theater.
Joining Donny for his first recording in over four years are pop singer and actress Vanessa Williams and U.S. talk show host, Rosie O'Donnell.
Osmond plans to follow up the album with a worldwide concert tour, traveling as far as Australia, towards the end of 2001.
Despite growing up in the public eye, with record achievements under his belt, Osmond was crippled by Social Anxiety Disorder, that almost torpedoed his hard-earned comeback. But today, Osmond says he has won the battle, with the help of his childhood sweetheart and wife of 21 years, Debbie.
The legendary entertainer has already achieved success that most stars can only dream of but Osmond says that he's finally in the driver's seat of his life, and things are just getting started. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
