  • Story Text: Cuban pianist Chucho Valdez was awarded a Grammy for his latest jazz album titled "Live at the Village Vanguard".
    During an interview with Reuters, the 59-year-old pianist expressed his excitement, saying he was living his happiest moments ever.
    Cuba's legendary jazz pianist, Chucho Valdez, is living what he calls his happiest moments ever after winning his third Grammy award for his latest jazz album and learning that his son wants to carry on with the family business.
    "This was truly a great surprise, not only because I wasn't expecting it but also because I knew the other work that was nominated and they are all excellent work, work of very high quality," Valdez told Reuters during an interview after the Grammy awards.
    Valdez was awarded the Grammy for his latest album titled "Live at the Village Vanguard", recorded in New York's legendary jazz club by the same name in April.
    On this album, the pianist, considered the master of fusing the sounds of jazz with other rhythms, included innovations like the Cuban Zapateo, a Cuban danzon.
    With his Grammy in hand, Valdez is working on three new albums, including one that was just released titled "Solo Piano", recorded in New York's Lincoln Centre.
