- Story Text: Diane Disney Miller, the only surviving daughter of the famed filmmaker Walt Disney, attended the 41st Television Festival in Monte Carlo to present a new two-hour film about the life and the work of her father.
Celebrities of the world's best TV series converged in the exclusive resort of Monte Carlo to attend the 41st Television Festival.
Paparazzi and fan watchers waited for hours in front of the posh "Hotel de Paris" hoping to see one of their favourite stars And get maybe an exclusive picture or an autograph.
Hunter Tylo who stars as Dr. Taylor Hayes Forrester in the serie "The Bold and the Beautiful", Scott Reeves, the main character in "The Young and the Restless" and Gena Lee Nolin who stars as Sheena in the Columbia TriStar International Television's new series, were among the best known television stars during the festival.
Hunter Tylo told Reuters TV that in real life she was completely different from her character in "The Bold and the Beautiful".
While in the series, her character is very sophisticated, in real life she does kick-boxing, she walks around with no make-up and wears sweats.
Gena Lee Nolin, best known for "Baywatch" and who plays now the main character in "Sheena", a new series based on the classic comic book of the 30s and 40s, attracted the photographers' attention for more than half an hour. She posed in a Japanese garden near the Forum centre.
"Sheena" tells the story of a girl orphaned at a young age by tragedy in the jungle and who was raised by the last living member of a native tribe who possessed the mystical power to
"shape shift" into the forms of wild animals by feeling the spirit of their soul.
"Baywatch was much more different, it was much lighter, sort of look pretty, run down the beach and this is (Sheena) much more stronger, much more serious as far as acting..." she said.
But there was another highlight which was premiered during the Festival "Walt : the Man behind the Myth", a 2-hour film based on the life and work of the mythic Walt Disney. The film was made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney's birth.
"I wanted to present a true picture of the man my father was and the best way to do it seemed to be by showing him and hearing him talk about himself in his life, in his work and interviewing the people who were the closest to him in work and in his life when we were all still alive." said Diane Disney Miller, Disney's daughter.
The film, which took seven months to shoot and six months to edit, is propelled by some of the most distinguished men and women in the entertainment world --from author and poet Ray Bradbury and master animation producer Chuck Jones, to authors and critics including Leonard Maltin, British historian Brian Sibley and Disney biographer Bob Thomas.
One of Disney's main characters was Mickey Mouse which was created on a train ride when he was travelling with his wife.
"He (Disney) had just lost the character that the film was centered around, it was "Oswald the Rabbit" and my mother was with him....and he said you know, I lost Oswald but I've got a new idea, it will be a mouse and I think I'll call him Mortimer.
My mother said Oh! I don't like Mortimer, what about Mickey and that's how it happened." said Diane Disney Miller.
Disney's daughter praised her father. She said he was a delightful man and added she was getting convinced that he was a genius. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
