- Story Text: The stage is set, the cameras are in position and the countdown has begun for the biggest night in the British music calendar - the Brit Awards 2001.
After a week of construction, fourteen thousand metres of carpet, thousands of lights, hundreds of miles of cables and more than 50 lorry loads of gear, Earls Court Two, the venue for this year's Brit awards, has finally been transformed.
For the past two days, some of the biggest names in the music industry have been descending on London's Earls Court for rehearsals, ahead of the most important night in the British music calendar - the Brit Awards 2001- being held on Monday (February 26).
The 21st annual BRIT awards is expected to see the best international and UK talent honoured by the 1000-strong BRITS academy, with four categories open to public voting.
Eight top acts have been confirmed to perform live at this year's ceremony in front of an audience of 5,000 guests from all corners of the UK music industry.
Coldplay have flown in from their recent tour of America and are set to perform, "Trouble" from their five-times platinum album, 'Parachutes' and the multi-platinum 19-year old Craig David will be performing his former UK number one hit, 'Fill Me In'.
Guests will also be treated to a performance from Texan trio, Destiny's Child and fresh from his performance at The Grammys, Eminem the controversial rap star will be on stage with his hit 'The Real Slim Shady' which he'll be performing with his rap protegees, D-12.
Dance diva Sonique is all set to wow the audience with her song, 'Feels So Good' , one of the biggest selling singles of the millennium year. Despite receiving four nominations this year, Sonique says she's still not sure whether or not she'll win anything but just in case, she's prepared a speech.
The UK's Prince of Pop, Robbie Williams seems destined to sweep the boards again this year, having received no fewer than four nominations. And if the UK tabloids are to be believed, there'll be no competition from this year's hottest contender Craig David, as he's rumoured to be 'walking away' with nothing despite having received 6 nominations.
But Mr Williams refused to give anything away when interviewed backstage shortly before his performance rehearsal this weekend... although he did impart one interesting piece of information ...that next year, Craig David won't have to worry about the competition because he has no plans to release an album.
Honoured with The Outstanding Contribution to Music, U2 are due to set the stage alive when they perform and fellow Irishmen, Westlife are also due to take to the stage to premiere their charity single for Comic Relief, the Billy Joel classic 'Uptown Girl'.
The show will be aired on Tuesday 27th February on the ITV network. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
