- Story Text: The stars of the new teen flick "Get Over It" turned out for the film's premiere on Thursday (March 8) and all eyes were on the film's star Kirsten Dunst.
Golden Globe-nominated Kirsten Dunst stars in the new film "Get Over It," a comic look at an enduring romantic problem -- how is a boy supposed to forget his ex-girlfriend when he has to see her everyday at school? It's not your typical high school love story -- or maybe it is -- but with a few twists. Berke Landers (Ben Foster) is a senior, he's dating the perfect girl, and just when he thinks life couldn't be better, his girlfriend Allison (Melissa Sagemiller) dumps him.
Allison is dating the new cool-guy in school, Striker (Shane West), a former boy-band singer. So now Berke is broken up about the break up and his friends are trying to figure out how to nurse him back to health. They decide the only solution is a new girl. They find that girl in an unlikely place -- Berke's best friend's little sister Kelly (Dunst).
In on helping Berke "get over it," is his friend Dennis, played by Grammy-nominated recording artist Sisqo, in his feature film debut. Sisqo toned down his "Thong Song" image for the role of regular high school teen. He said he hopes this will launch a second career for him.
Dunst, whose career skyrocked after "Interview With A Vampire," said she enjoyed doing the film because she got to sing. The film centers around a school production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" directed by the high school's head drama teacher, played by veteran comic actor Martin Short.
Short said he tried to make the character not too likeable, but not too despicable. He has the character boss the students around, yet compete with them in his youthful clothing, trying-to-be-hip hairstyle, and always-seeking-the-spotlight personality.
The school's Shakespeare production is a comedy in itself, and the rest of the film turns out a sweet teen love story.
This Miramax film is directed by Tommy O'Haver who made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss." R. Lee Fleming, Jr. wrote this script after he penned his first screenplay, "She's All That" with Freddie Prinze, Jr.
