- Story Text: Robert De Niro and newcomer Edward Burns team up as cops on the trail of a pair of brutal killers in the new thriller "15 Minutes." The movie is released in the United States this Friday.
De Niro plays a veteran and celebrated cop who's also a media darling and very adept at using a television camera and sympathetic reporters to help him solve crimes.
His sleuthing skills are put to the test when two Eastern European immigrants, played by Czech actor Karel Roden and Russian actor Oleg Taktarov, embark on a murder and mayhem spree which they are documenting on their hand-held video camera.
De Niro's character Eddie Flemming teams up with arson investigator Jordy Warsaw, played by Burns, when the criminals start using explosions and deadly fires to cover their tracks.
One of those fires was created during a scene in which Burns agreed to have his arm set on fire without the assistance of a stuntman. He calls it one of the scariest moments of his life.
Also in the film is Kelsey Grammer, the star of the long-running and Emmy-winning NBC situation comedy "Frasier."
Grammer plays Robert Hawkins, the host of a popular yet sensationalist tabloid television news program who wants to purchase the killers' videotapes and put them on primetime television.
Grammer says working on "15 Minutes" was a nice break from "Frasier." He says he took the part because it wasn't simply "Frasier" in a movie, unlike most of the movie roles he's been offered over the last 10 years.
"15 Minutes" was directed by John Herzfeld, who previously helmed the black comedy "Two Days in the Valley," which was the movie that launched Charlize Theron's film career.
"15 Minutes" opens in theaters throughout the United States on Friday, March 9th. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
