- Story Text: After delighting some and disgusting others with his unorthodox television series, Canadian-born comic Tom Green has celebrated the World Premiere of his directorial debut "Freddie Got Fingered".
Although the media gathered at the premiere for Green's directorial debut, they were also there to catch their first glimpse of the officially-married couple Tom Green and Drew Barrymore, who tied the knot two weeks ago in a private ceremony.
The pair last appeared together in "Charlie's Angels," but this is Green's first time out as a headlining star as well as a director. He wrote the film along with his childhood friend Derek Harvie, who also writes for Green's television show.
The film tells the story of Green's character Gord Brody, a 28-year old aspiring animator who tries to make it in Hollywood, but is rejected and has to move back into his parents' home. His dad is played by "Larry Sanders' Show"
co-star Rip Torn and his mom is played by "Airplane" co-star Julie Haggerty.
Although it's not based on Green's life, the storyline does parallel some of his experiences. Like his character, Green always dreamed of breaking into show business and lived with his parents until a very late age in order to achieve that dream.
It started to come true when Green pitched an idea for a talk show to Rogers TV in his native Ottawa, Canada. Three years later, "The Tom Green Show" was picked up by the Comedy Network and, later, by MTV.
"Freddie Got Fingered" is unorthodox comedy at its most brutal. It includes scenes of Green masturbating a horse and an elephant, of him biting the umbilical cord off a new-born baby, and of him slicing open a dead deer by the side of the road and crawling inside its carcass. It's definitely not a film for the weak-stomached.
The film is currently on release in the United States.
