- Story Text: Coming off his success with last summer's surprise hit "Big Momma's House," Martin Lawrence is at it again, this time facing off against Danny DeVito in "What's the Worst That Could Happen?" They attended the film's world premiere on Tuesday, May 22 in Los Angeles.
DeVito plays a billionaire who catches Lawrence's character robbing his mansion. To get even with him, he takes the thief's lucky charm ring, telling the cops that it's his own ring. Depraved of his good luck charm, and faced with a future of bad luck, the thief begins wreaking revenge on the tycoon. The story becomes a battle of wills as the thief tries to get his most treasured possession, his luck, back from a man who has everything.
For DeVito, the film was an easy sell. "It's always fun to come to work knowing that it's a plot driven movie, it's funny and it's got good characters," DeVito told Reuters.
Last seen in the hit "Big Momma's House," Lawrence thought his latest comedy was an opportunity to learn from one of Hollywood's finest actors.
"He's (DeVito) a guy that leads by example and I can respect that he doesn't really have into this whole verbal discussion about the business he just shows by what he shows up to work," Lawrence told Reuters.
According to DeVito, he and Lawrence had tried to work together before but scheduling conflicts prevented collaboration until now. DeVito also credits finally finding a script they both agreed on.
For Lawrence, "What's the Worst That Could Happen" is that people come out to the theater and have some laughs.
