- Story Text: Emma Bunton's new album is taking the charts by storm.
Last week, the ex Spice Girl paid a visit to one of London's biggest record stores to launch her single "What took you so long?"
Baby Spice, or Emma Bunton as she now prefers to be known, is now the fourth Spice Girl to release a solo album.
Both her album and her new single "What took you so long"
with its catchy, seductive chorus and pleasant strumming of guitar strings have taken the charts by storm.
Last week Emma paid a visit to London's HMV record store to launch the single.
"All the tracks that I've written on my album are very personal. I think this track is kind of to boys... Whenever I write something, I take it back, it can be years back, I just kind of bring lots of emotions up. This one is actually about men. No offense on boys, but they take that little bit longer to ask you out or realize that they like you or, you know, things like that. So it's kind of gone way back because I remember when I was younger, boys would never ask me out, so that was what inspired me to write this song", she said.
For the album, Emma teamed up with writers who had made hits for The Spice Girls, Melanie C and Kylie Minogue. But it is her signature album, and despite all the fun she's having with the other girls, Emma sees it like a personal 'diary'.
"They're both very exciting. I love writing with the girls, it's lots of fun and we kind of bounce off of each other and have loads of ideas. I think that with this one it's kind of like writing a diary, it's very personal. Everything I've written about has been about my personal experience but also it's about general experience. It's like all girls go through what I go through. We've all fallen in love, we've had our hearts broken, we've had to tell someone that we don't want to see them anymore, which is hard, we love our moms, we have girlie nights on Fridays, which I've written a whole track about going out with the girls. So, I think that a lot of people will be able to identify with the album which is very important to me."
The video for "It took you so long" was shot outside of L.A. in the desert which wasn't that warm after all...according to Emma...
"It was freezing! Absolutely freezing! And there's me going you know, I'll do a video, an hour and a half outside of LA in the desert, it'll be boiling and it wasn't. It was actually so cold and I was being a dizzy blond and there was a nice heater and I though... Hum, heat! So, I literally put my hands on the heater and burnt all the top of my fingers so that was a silly thing to do but I had loads of fun. My mum came up with her sister so we had a really girlie time."
So what are Emma's aspirations for the future? "My goals are to obviously have a big hit with the album which would just be amazing. I'm traveling over Europe, I'm going to Asia, America... So, you know, to be able to have hit singles and albums over there as well would just be amazing! And also to tour. I can't wait to tour! I think one of my goals would have to be playing in Wembley on my own which would just be amazing! So let's see, fingers crossed." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
