- Story Text: Rob Schneider proved he has the star power to open a movie with his surprise hit comedy "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo." Now he's raising the stakes and jumping into the high-profile summer season with his latest project, "The Animal."
Hoping to recreate the success of "Deuce Bigalow,"
Schneider is relying on the same writing and producing team that made that earlier film a hit, including executive producer Adam Sandler.
In "The Animal," Schneider plays police evidence file clerk Marvin Mange, a lovable loser who just can't seem to get his life in order. One night, rushing to a crime scene, he gets into a near-fatal car crash and is rescued by a shadowy figure.
When he wakes up, he realizes that the figure is an eccentric scientist who has saved his life by replacing all his organs with animal parts. Life gets more complicated as those various parts start to take control of his body, forcing him to chase frisbees like a dog, hunt fish in aquariums like a cat and get into a slapping contest with an Orangutan.
One of the highlights of the shoot was the day Schneider had to dive into a pond of freezing water and rescue a drowning boy as a trained dolphin would. The scene require underwater tracks, cable and wire work, and a lot of breath-holding time for Schneider.
The film co-stars Colleen Haskell as an animal lover whom Schneider falls for. In her debut feature film role, Haskell is best known as a cast member/contestant in the original "Survivor" television series on CBS.
"The Animal" opens in theaters throughout the United States on Friday, June 1.
