- Story Text: After a relationship lasting almost 40 years, Thunderbirds stars Lady Penelope and Parker had finally split - two puppets of the well-loved characters went under the hammer at an auction at London's Planet Hollywood - and were sold to different bidders. Lady Penelope went for £15,000 and her faithful retainer Parker for a whopping £38,000.
Lady Penelope and her chauffeur Parker were the highlight go Fleetwoodowen's "At The Movie's" auction of film and TV memorabilia, including props and costumes from Gladiator, Austin Powers, Sleepy Hollow, Mission: Impossible and several Bond films, including the moon buggy used by James Bond to escape his foes in Diamonds Are Forever, which was the most expensive lot, fetching £75,000.
The figure of Lady Penelope is a perfect replica, made from her original mould for a TV commercial made in 1990, and Parker is the original puppet which appeared in every episode of Thunderbirds, made in 1963. Although the original heads are displayed on mannequin style bodies, both were sole along with their marionette bodies, which, once assembled, will provide their new owners with fully working puppets.
Fleetwoodowen.com, an Internet auction house founded by guitarist Mick Fleetwood and his friend, auctioneer Ted Owen, to help preserve showbiz memorabilia, created a truly global event, with two auction rooms on with side of the Atlantic, in Planet Hollywood's San Francisco and London restaurants as well ad bidders joining in on the Internet.
Lady Penelope was sold for £15,000 to a private collector in the United States, while Parker went for £38,000 to a bidder present at the London auction room, bidding on behalf of a private collector in Japan. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
