- Story Text: Julie Andrews added a touch of class to Hollywood Boulevard on Sunday, July 29th, when she turned up for the world premiere of her latest film, "The Princess Diaries."
Co-stars, including newcomer Anne Hathaway and singer Mandy Moore, making her debut in the film, also showed up, along with director Garry Marshall.
Eleven years after filmmaker Garry Marshall turned Julia Roberts into a star with the box office blockbuster "Pretty Woman," he's back with another rags to riches story about a frumpy girl who gets a glamorous make-over in the new family comedy "The Princess Diaries."
Newcomer Anne Hathaway stars as a shy and clutzy American teenager named Mia Thermopolis who finds out that she's actually the princess of a small fictional European nation.
Bearing the good, or possibly bad news, is the grandmother she's never met, the Queen Clarisse Renaldi, played by Hollywood royalty Julie Andrews. This is the first time since "Mary Poppins" in 1964 that Andrews has worked for the Walt Disney Company.
Also in the cast are Heather Matarazzo as Mia's best friend Lilly, Caroline Goodall as her free-spirited artist mother Helen, and recording artist Mandy Moore in her feature film acting debut as Lana Mia's nemesis and the most popular girl at school.
Once again, as in all of Garry Marshall's films, actor Hector Elizondo puts in an appearance as the Queen's head of security Joseph, who becomes a chaperone and mentor of sorts for the young princess.
Besides "Pretty Woman," Marshall's credits also include "The Runaway Bride," "Beaches," "Frankie and Johnny" and the classic television programs "Happy Days," "Laverne and Shirley," "The Odd Couple" and "Mork and Mindy." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
