- Story Text: After a last minute change to the schedule, pop diva Janet Jackson kicked off her "All For You" world tour with a concert in Portland, Oregon, USA, her first in more than four years. Reuters caught up with the singer as she prepared to go on the road.
2001 has been a good year for Janet Jackson, and we're only in July.
In a sizzling comeback from her divorce from second husband, Rene Elizondo Jr. and a four-year recording hiatus, Jackson recently topped the U.S. album charts with her fifth album, 'All For You', the follow-up to 1997's multiplatinum-selling album, 'Velvet Rope'. She also topped the US single charts for 7 weeks with the first track to be released from the album, 'All For You'.
But, the 34-year old who has already sold an estimated 50 million albums worldwide, has cast aside any worries concerning an ongoing legal battle with her ex-husband and told Reuters that for the past few months she'd been concentrating on preparing for a massive tour of the globe.
Her main objective...to please the fans.
However, Jackson's plans were rudely interrupted last week when she and her managers were forced to postpone her Vancouver concert, (where Jackson was due to open her world tour), blaming the late arrival of stage equipment for the abrupt schedule change. Jackson will now be performing in Vancouver on Monday July 9. The singer's gig in Edmonton, Alberta on July 10 has been cancelled outright.
Jackson's 'All For You' world tour, takes its name from the title of her latest album and she said is meant to be a tribute to her fans. Jackson is scheduled to perform nearly 60 dates in North America this summer before taking her "All For You" road trip through Europe in the autumn and winter.
The 'All For You' world tour features eight dancers and seven musicians who will accompany Jackson on stage when she performs a collection of her music including hits favoured by fans, like 'Nasty', 'Rhythm Nation', 'Black Cat', 'That's the Way Love Goes' and 'Got Til It's Gone' as well as songs from her new album.
Jackson will kick off the European leg in Stockholm on 31st October.
While on tour, Jackson is to be joined by American female singer Pink, as a support act.
The second single to be released from her new album is 'Someone to Call My Lover' on 30 July, 2001. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
