- Story Text: The King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley died 24 years ago this week. To mark the occasion, during 'Elvis Week' Presley fans have been given a special treat by not only being allowed to visit Graceland, the former home of their idol but thanks to Donna Presley Early, Elvis's cousin, the house next door, once lived in by his father Vernon has opened its doors to the public.
Reuters recently caught up with Donna Presley in London, when she presented a diamond ring to a local charity.
Donna Presley Early is the first cousin of Elvis Presley. She recently appeared at a London Elvis memorabilia store to present a uniquely designed diamond ring to the Linda Jackson MacMillan Centre in north London, a charity set up to help victims of cancer.
The 18-carat gold ring which is set with a large ruby surrounded by diamonds is said to be worth approximately 25,000 dollars U.S. and is the first ring to have been produced under Donna Presley Early's newly founded company.
It is hoped that in the near future the ring will be auctioned off to raise money for the MacMillan centre.
But it's not the only project Donna Presley Early has been undertaking. She recently leased the former home of her Uncle Vernon, Elvis Presley's father. The house which sits adjacent to Graceland was originally bought by Elvis for his father and she says holds many happy memories for the Presley family.
So, 'continuing with the Presley family tradition' Presley Early renovated some rooms in the house before the doors opened free of charge for fans, in time for 'Elvis Week'. The opening of the house is just one of the projects Presley Early is working on. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
