- Story Text: The 27th Deauville Film Festival showcased the (out-of-competition) fast-paced new movie 'Fast and Furious' - the first feature film to depict the adrenaline-charged world of import street car racing - by one of today's most adventurous directors Rob Cohen. Lead actors - Vin Diesel and Paul Walker joined Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster on the red carpet and were greeted by fans and media on the first leg of their European premiere tour.
Director Rob Cohen's 'Fast and Furious' certainly lives up to its name with this high adrenaline, high testosterone injected car movie.
Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) drives the streets of Los Angeles as if he owns them. He spends his days putting wrench-time into high performance racing cars - make and model matter less than the computer-controlled fuel injection that makes them fly.
Vin Diesel (Saving Private Ryan, Boiler Room and Pitch Black) talks to Reuters about how much fun he had making 'Fast and Furious' and told us: "I remember how much fun I had - in getting out of the car to a crowd of people all, you know, even the extras were amazing in the move so all playing the part and being the part of this sub-culture and this world and how exciting that was."
Michelle Rodriguez's part as Domonic's sister 'Letty' was expanded after director Rob Cohen saw her great performance in 'Girlfight'. She talks about her character in this movie: "She was always a tomboy kind of character and building her own cars and really into that world of putting that skin on to turn into a super hero."
Brian (Paul Walker) (also in Rob Cohen's 'The Skulls) is hooked, hungry and ready to test the limits too. He seeks Domonic's approval behind the wheel of his own NOS-injected muscle machine. After a blazing encounter with ruthless Johnny Tran (Rick Yune) Domonic decides Brian is all right.
Arriving for the European premiere, Paul confirms that he has been interested in racing since a child, adding ''I actually race with NIRA it's the equivalent to NASCAR in the States but as opposed to domestic cars it's Japanese imports and at this point I'm just doing the quarter mile but I plan on zapping it up."
Domonic's sister Mia (Jordana Brewster) (recently appearing with Cameron Diaz in 'The Invisible Circus') likes what she sees too and embarks on a relationship with Brian. The thing is, they dont know he's a cop.... - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
