- Story Text: DJ Roger Sanchez, dance act Faithless and trendy Basement Jaxx laid on the tunes at this year's MTV Ibiza bash at the island's prestigious 'Privilege' club - apparently the biggest in the world. Around 8,000 clubbers turned up to dance their way through 11 hours of hot music.
Clubbers from around the world flocked to Ibiza again this year for one of the island's most popular events - the annual MTV bash. After a last minute change in venue - from its original open-air location to the monstrous indoor edifice Privilege, the night still attracted around 8,000 fans.
The lineup of who's who in DJ world included Roger Sanchez - host of the evening, Carl Cox, Ferry Corsten, Mauro Picotto and amazing live performances by British Basement Jaxx and Faithless.
One day before the event, Reuters Television caught up with Roger Sanchez who's a well known face in Ibiza's club world.
"In Ibiza you get a crowd that's almost always really up for it because they're on the island, there're here, they have fun, to party. It's a very international mix. It's not just Brits or Italians or French. Everybody comes together in a lot of these nights so I think that you get that cross section, that energy flowing from different people and it's really positive", says Sanchez.
"I like to begin the beginning of the night very deep, very dark, very kind of emotional and kind of build up the energy slowly so that way you got a foundation and a point of departure."
And the crowds loved it. After an initial hick-up that brought the mixing decks to a brief standstill, the night took off featuring one hot act after the other. And most DJs agree they get a rush out of getting the crowds going.
"That's my rush. Being able to influence those people on the floor to really want to let themselves go who wanna enjoy themselves and kind of be into the whole thing."
Other acts included DJ Carl Cox and hot live acts by Basement Jaxx and Faithless.
"Being in Ibiza is a different energy, a different spirit. A lot of people come here to enjoy themselves as a holiday, if they get to see their favourite DJ, it's a bonus, but you know the clubs are really special here. There's nothing like it in the rest of the world. With that, it's a great location to be on this island and people know what they're gonna get when they come here. Many years ago you never had this but now for the new generation of people who go to clubs, they do have it. MTV will provide really great acts at the moment. Faithless and Basement Jaxx of course are just two of the big names out there at the moment. And you get to see them on one night. That's a great hot ticket I must say"
says Cox.
To mark the event, a massive double CD will feature 39 prime tracks like Depeche Mode's I Feel Loved, Basement Jaxx's Romeo, Eddy Grant's Electric Avenue, The Neanderthal's Caveman, Way Out West's Intensify, Faithless's Bring The Family Back, Muse's New Born and Missy Elliott's Superchumbo Superfreakon. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
