- Story Text: The rock 'n' roll glitteratti gathered in London for the Q Awards to toast the top current rock talent with gongs going to the likes of Travis and The Manic Street Preachers, and celebrate the achievements of music industry legends, Kate Bush, Brian Eno and the inimitable John Lydon, aka the Sex Pistols front man Johnny Rotten.
Notorious for the rowdy nature of the participants, the Q Awards honour the great and the good of the music world - with not a teen queen popster or ultra-groomed boy band in sight.
The 12th annual awards, with are voted for by the readers of Q magazine are considered to be a true arbiter or grown-up music taste.
This years event attracted a mixture of fresh talent and modern-day rock icons from Starsailor, Ash and Travis to Kate Bush, Cher and Midge Ure.
Also in attendance was Liam Gallagher, there to support his "missus" Nicole Appleton as she and her sister Natalie presented Ash with the award for Best Single.
An elusive Damon Albarn collected the award for Best Video for his "virtual band" project Gorillaz.
Travis, just back from San Francisco and jetlagged, scooped the award for Best Album for The Invisible Band.
Best Live Act went to the Manic Street Preachers and Starsailor were thrilled to take home the award for Best New Act.
Representing the legends of rock and roll were Brian Eno who was awarded Q's Special Award, and Kate Bush who received the Classic Songwriter Award - much to the delight of the crowd.
Elvis Costello gave an exclusive performance before being presented with the Q Merit award.
Needless to say, the noisiest and most flamboyant star in attendance was John Lydon, the artist formerly known as Johnny Rotten, who recieved the Q Inspiration Award for remaining a notorious anti-hero for the past twenty five years ever since he shocked the world with the Sex Pistols. Lydon showed that he still has what it takes, giving the awards their traditional boost of rock star bad behaviour. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
