- Story Text: Hollywood tough guy and Oscar nominee Russell Crowe was in Tokyo on Wednesday (March 20) to promote his latest film "A Beautiful Mind" -- just days ahead of the Academy Awards.
In "A Beautiful Mind" Crowe plays Nobel laureate and mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr. and portrays Nash's real-life struggle with schizophrenia.
Crowe describes the film as a major love story between this mathematician and the wife that has to bear with Nash's ailment.
"It's a true story of John and Alicia. You know, yes, there were times over the last fifty years, they've being apart, there were times they didn't understand that John's situation was not just eccentricity, it was disease. But they've lived through that and they've grown through that. And they were married in the 50s and they were divorced in the 60s. But last year, they go remarry again. I just think it's a magnificent romance and that's my major reason for doing this film because it is great and grand love story." said New Zealand-born Crowe.
Crowe, lighting a cigarette at a promotional press conference in Tokyo, said the film made him question his own life.
"Reality or the truth of schizophrenia is a person who thinks on a completely different reasons. And they used to say in a medical profession that people who are mad would without reason, but we now know people who have schizophrenia absolutely live in the world of reason. It's just reason we don't understand and we cannot see. So the thing is that worried me me most is the plan off the character. It's the concept that goodly-portioned of what you know is not true. My life contains so many strange things that I began to wonder is my life actually real?" Crowe said.
Though Crowe who did not dwell upon his own nomination for best-actor for the Academy awards on Saturday (March 24), did however root for his partner in the film - Jeniffer Connelly who played Nash's wife.
"This, I think, is the first time she (Jennifer Connelly) has had a role of the emotional breath to really challenger.
And I think she did a magnificent job. I'm quite sure on Sunday (touch wood) she would be rewarded for that job," he added.
Both he and Jennifer Connelly will find out how the film goes at the Academy Awards on March 24. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
