- Story Text: British band Supertramp is back on the road with their latest CD, Slowmotion, the first the band has released in five years.
Supertramp treated a few chosen people to a private concert in Paris, just after the release of their latest album, "Slowmotion", and a few weeks ahead of their scheduled live concerts in the French capital.
Slowmotion, released by EMI Records, was recorded over a five-month period in Los Angeles, the Hamptons on Long Island, and mixed and mastered in New York City. Produced by Rick Davies, with co-production by Jay Messina (who also engineered) and Mark Hart, the CD is the group's maiden voyage into the world of computer technology -- recorded with the use of Pro Tools.
Much anticipated, Slowmotion is the first new material from the band in five years. The nine-song opus, penned by founder Rick Davies, features classic Supertramp singles as well as cleverly crafted, jazz-influenced compositions sure to become mainstays of their live concert performances.
"We try to have it all, you know, we try to have a little improvisation, interest in the intrumentation, as well as the actual lyrical content. I think it's a continuation of what we've done in the past, although I think it's a rather nice production, this one; it has a lot of punch. Probably more than a lot of records we've made", Rick Davies told Reuters Television after the private concert in Paris.
The new CD opens with the title track "Slow Motion," a beautiful, engaging pop song that will be the first single.
The song is immediately recognizable and memorable, a signature Supertramp offering. Noteworthy pop tracks include the retro-styled "Over You" and the smooth as silk "Little By Little." The CD ventures into more dramatic territory with the epic tracks "Tenth Avenue Breakdown," "Broken Hearted" and "Dead Man's Blues."
Joining Davies (vocals and keyboards) on Slowmotion are veteran Supertramp members John Helliwell (saxophones) and Bob Siebenberg (drums), Mark Hart (vocals, keyboards, and guitars), Cliff Hugo (bass), Bob's son, Jesse (percussion), Lee Thornburg (trumpet) and Carl Verheyen (guitars) -- the same band known to fans from 1997's Some Things Never Change and the subsequent world tour that spawned the 1999 live CD, It was the Best of Times.
Supertramp embarked on the "One More For The Road Tour 2002" on April 18, 2002, in Benidorm, Spain, with the first leg of the tour featuring 70 shows in 13 European countries.
Fans are being treated to a new show that includes material from Slowmotion as well as many familiar Supertramp classics. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
