- Story Text: The incredible success of director Barry Sonnenfeld's "Men In Black I," has spawned a sequel simply titled "Men In Black II," with the original cast of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, back to rid the world of more aliens.
Agents Jay and Kay played by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones respectively, are back for more battles with aliens, who this time around take the form of a host of estrogen-charged extraterrestrials, in "Men In Black II".The film is a sequel to 1997's hit block buster about alien-seeking agents who avert an intergalactic disaster of epic proportions.
Kay has since returned to the comforts of civilian life while Jay continues to work for the Men in Black, the highly funded yet unofficial government agency that regulates all things alien on earth. While investigating a seemingly routine crime, Jay uncovers a diabolical plot masterminded by Serleena, an evil Kylothian monster who disguises herself as a sexy lingerie model.
It's a race against the clock as Jay must convince Kay - who not only has no memory of his time spent with the agency, but is also the only person alive who has the expertise to save the galaxy - to reunite with the MIB before Earth is destroyed completely.
Will Smith said he was happy to be back on the set of the movie, and to be reunited with fellow cast members.
"It was full of suprises, full of laughter, kind of like a family reunion, everybody's back together again," said Smith.
The cunning government agents chase bizarre alien creatures who have taken human form, tackling the issue of whether there really is life on other planets Tommy Lee Jones said that he believes that there could be life out there, but is doubtful if they bear any resemblance to the aliens in the movie. "I don't know, the most intriguing story that I've noticed in the newspapers having to do with other planets is the story about the ocean of ice under that south pole of Mars at a very shallow depth, not ice, but water. And of course water being the first prerequisite for life as we know it keeps open the possibility that there may be a unicellular micro-organism somewhere on Mars," said Jones." If that were discovered, it would change thinking on Earth, I think, in a significant way. But as far as flying saucers and little green men, I don't give that much thought and take it very seriously"
Lara Flynn Boyle, well known for her role on the Emmy award winning TV show "The Practice, "who plays the evil Serleena in the film, said she was thrilled to be a part of a huge cult movie. "Really cool people to work with, being part of a piece of movie history. I loved the first one, I found it so unique and charming, and not like anything I'd ever seen.
And I'd gone to see it, actually thinking it was like a guys movie, and I loved it. So for me being involved in the second one, I jumped at the chance because of all these great parts of it."
The film also stars Rosary Damson as Laura Vasquez and Rip Torn as Zed and is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.
'Men in Black II' opens in the United States on Wednesday July
