- Story Text: The Isle of MTV club tour has been underway since mid-June. With eleven nights hosted at some of the coolest dance venues in Europe, momentum has been building up to the main event, hosted in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday (July 20).
Over ten thousand clubbers were treated to live performances from Gorillaz, Morcheeba, Cassius and Da Weasal with DJ sets from the cream of dance music - Roger Sanchez, homegrown Rui da Silva, X-Press 2 and Layo and Bushwacka to name a few.
For the past few years, MTV Europe has taken over the island of Ibiza to host its annual dance extravaganza but this year, they decided to change not only the venue, but the location too. And so, an eclectic mix of DJs and artists descended upon Lisbon, Portugal for the 'Isle of MTV' experience.
Held at the historic site of Torre de Belem, the main event in the Isle of MTV club tour attracted over ten thousand dance lovers from all over Europe, to a night under the stars and without doubt, confirmed Lisbon as home to a burgeoning dance scene.
And it wasn't just the big names like Morcheeba, Gorillaz and Cassius who drew the crowds, local, homegrown talent was just as warmly received. Internationally renowned DJ Rui da Silva fronted the Portuguese contingent which included Da Weasel, Rui Vargas Yen Sung and DJ Vibe.
The show, fronted by Kelis and DJ God Roger Sanchez also featured stonking performances from X-Press 2 who recently rocked the charts with their collaboration with David Byrne 'Lazy', Cassius who joined forces with Jocelyn Brown on stage and Layo and Bushwacka!.
While Gorillaz were thrilling crowds with their live set on one stage, blistering DJ stints could be heard on another from the likes of Ian Pooley, Bill Shakes and Erick Morillo. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
