- Story Text: Elizabeth Hurley and Matthew Perry took to the red carpet in Los Angeles on Tuesday (August 20, 2002) for the premiere of their latest movie, "Serving Sara." The comedy features Perry as a hard-boiled process server who falls in love with an Englishwoman while attempting to serve her with divorce papers.
Hollywood heavyweights Matthew Perry and Elizabeth Hurley are hoping to serve up some slapstick fun with the romantic comedy "Serving Sara." The flick follows Joe Tyler (Perry), a down-and-dirty process server who knows how to lay legal documents on everyone from mobsters to millionaires.
British-born beauty Sara Moore (Hurley) finds herself in Joe's sights after her conniving Texas rancher husband plots to file for divorce. But the quick-thinking Sara is able to turns the tables, and convinces Joe to help her serve papers on her husband instead.
At the Los Angeles premiere Tuesday evening (August 20, 2002), the two stars talked about their on-screen dynamic.
"We met a couple of times before we started the movie," said Perry.
"Based on that we just kind of went and shot it and it worked." Hurley agreed, saying: "We both like to laugh, and that makes a big difference. Some people are very, very serious in real life, and neither of us are."
In a recent interview with Reuters, Perry talked about his appreciation for Hurley:
"She is so beautiful and so talented, but she disarms you right away because she is just cool, like a real fun person to be around and lucky for us she is really funny too."
Perry also discussed the challenges of making a comedic film in contrast to his usual work on the hit television show "Friends."
"The difficult part about doing it on the big screen is you don't have the immediate gratification, there is no audience there to really laugh," the star explained.
"If you are making the director and producer laugh, they have kind of a vested interest, so you never know if they are really laughing or not, you know. You find out kind of, if I cracked Elizabeth up on the set and we had to do it again then you know you are doing the right thing."
