- Story Text: Europe's premier music awards show, the MTV Europe Music Awards is set to be staged in Barcelona in six weeks time. Rap superstar, fashion designer, top producer, filmm actor and all round impresario Sean "P. Diddy" Combes is hosting the two hour live spectacular. Eminem, Kylie, Pink, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, Royksopp and Coldplay have four nominations apiece.
Hip-hop superstar Sean "P. Diddy" Combs promised on Monday to throw "a big ol' party" in Barcelona as up to one billion pop fans pick this year's MTV award winners.
But the host of the November 14 awards ceremony tactfully promised to "get back to you on that one" when asked who he would back for the Best Female Award -- his former girlfriend Jennifer Lopez is among the nominees.
"I am going to think about it and make sure I don't say the wrong thing," he said.
The highly publicised romance between Lopez and Combs came to an end early last year as Combs was on trial in New York on weapons and bribery charges. He was later acquitted.
After a London news conference to announce the nominees for the MTV Europe Music Awards, the colourful rap mogul told Reuters Television: "We are going to make it a big ol' party.
I am going to make it special."
His job is to host the show, which boasts a potential audience of up to one billion fans who vote to pick the winners. But he promised to step in and perform himself "if someone doesn't show up."
The Harlem-born rapper formerly known as Puff Daddy was already flirting before preparations for the show began.
"I love Spain and I love Spanish women -- that is a little plug for myself. I love all women, I love women no matter where you are from. Just be in Barcelona," said the rapper who boasts his own fashion empire and has now hit the Hollywood big screen with his role as a murderer in "Monster's Ball."
Pop hype reigned supreme as he promised: "There is not going to be a dull moment. I really don't think it gets no sexier than this -- MTV, Barcelona, Diddy."
The 2002 awards look set to be a close fought contest this year, with seven artists leading the nominations.
Boasting four each are rapper Eminem, U.S.
singer-songwriter Pink, Spanish heart-throb Enrique Iglesias, the British group Coldplay, Australia's Kylie Minogue and Latin star Shakira, and Norweigen dance duo Royksopp.
Among the stars performing live at the show will be Britain's Robbie Williams who has for the past few months been working on his new album "Escapology" in Los Angeles.
Also set to hit the stage to sing live will be Coldplay and Enrique Iglesias and Pink as well as former host Wyclef Jean. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
