- Story Text: Two British films got the nod at the announcement of the Golden Globe awards on Thursday (December 11). Mamma Mia! and Happy-Go-Lucky were both recognised, along with the Coen Brothers' Burn After Reading, the dark comedy In Bruges and Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona.
"Everything that's happened has been completely incredible. I think, for everyone who worked on the film, it was such a special project.
Especially for those of us who hadn't done a feature film before. So, to get a nomination is mind-blowing," said of director of Mamma Mia! Phyllida Lloyd.
"It's very surreal, I mean, it still feels surreal, I don't quite believe it's happened, you know. I heard from a text, my mum sent me a text she's got her, she's looked after Google Alerts, so she knew before anyone, and I didn't believe her, until I got the official, official call. It's just that it's very surreal, to think, 'That never happens'," said first-time nominee actress Sally Hawkins.
The Oscars, voted upon by some 6,000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will be given out in February.
The HFPA, which has about 90 voting members, also hands out awards for U.S. television programs, and in the category for best TV drama were "Dexter," "House," "In Treatment," "Mad Men" and "True Blood." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
