- Story Text: Friends and family of actress Natasha Richardson gathered on Friday (March 20) for her wake at the American Irish Historical Society in New York City.
Richardson's husband, Irish actor Liam Neeson, arrived accompanied by the couple's two sons, and were joined by the actress' mother Vanessa Redgrave and Richardon's sister, Joely Richardson.
The body was moved to the society on Friday morning from the Greenwich Village Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements for Richardson have not yet been made public.
The 45-year-old award-winner died in New York on Wednesday (March 18) after suffering a severe brain injury caused by a blunt impact to her head.
Richardson was taking a ski lesson in Canada on Monday (March 16) and fell during a private lesson. The injury appeared to be mild, but later the same day the actress was hospitalized in Montreal.
Her husband, actor Liam Neeson, who was filming in Toronto, flew to be with his wife in Montreal after the accident. She was then flown to a New York City hospital on Tuesday (March 17), where she was surrounded by family and friends.
The award winning actress, whose mother is Vanessa Redgrave and father was director Tony Richardson, followed her family's footsteps into acting.
Richardson was equally at home on New York's Broadway and London's West End, as well as on the big screen. She won a Tony award, Broadway's highest honor, in 1998 for her role in the musical "Cabaret."
On Thursday (March 19) evening, Neeson emerged from his home to watch the lights dimmed at Broadway theatres in honor of his wife.
Richardson and Neeson starred together in the Jodie Foster film drama "Nell", and they married in July 1994. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
