- Story Text: Marshall Bruce Mathers, III, better known as controversial rapper Eminem, pleaded guilty Wednesday (February 14) to charges of carrying a concealed weapon in a Michigan courtroom.
Controversial rap star Eminem was in a Michigan court room Wednesday (February 14) to face charges of carrying a concealed weapon and assault. Eminem, short for Marshall Mathers, asked the judge to dismiss the assault charge while agreeing to plead guilty to other.
The rapper explained his crime to the court. "Well, your honor, on June 4, 2000, in the city of Warren, I was in possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle," said the rapper.
The charges stem from an incident outside a Warren, Michigan nightclub. Sentencing is set for April 10. The charge carries with it a possible five year sentence.
Eminem is famous for his homophobic and masogynistic lyrics and causing lots of controversy. Some of the rappers songs have included lyrics about raping and killing his own mother. But, apparently not everyone minds the lyrics. His records have sold 8 million units.
In another yet controversy, Eminem, who has 2 Grammy Awards to his credit, will perform at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on February 21. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation plans to picket the Grammys, and hopes others will follow suit. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
