- Story Text: Hundreds of children gathered on Thursday (November 3) in the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv to remember murdered Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on the eve of the anniversary of his assassination. Ten years have past since Rabin, who took power in 1992, was shot in Tel Aviv where he attended a peace rally. Hundreds of Tel Aviv children gathered to light candles and remember the late Prime Minister ahead of the anniversary. Many memorials and special events are planned for the coming weeks to honour Rabin and his legacy. "The kids of the school are coming here each year in memory of Yitzhak Rabin in a short ceremony here. Just something quite small and modest, not more than that. It is different from the national ceremonies. It is very local. It's very familiar," Dan Arav who attended Thursday's gathering explained. "I am here to be with the memory of Yitzhak Rabin and I was here 10 years ago on the night that he was assassinated and since then I've always had the chills on this day. I think it's a very significant day for the entire country and for the entire Middle East and for the entire world also," said Danny Shavit who was also there. Rabin's murder on November 4, 1995, stunned not just Israelis but the whole world that had pinned its hopes on the former general to get the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians back on track. Most Israelis remember him fondly and the coming days' newspapers and bulletins will not fall short of honouring the former leader with tributes and commemorations. State commemorations will be held on November 14 - the Jewish calendar anniversary of his murder. Events beginning early next week include gatherings to be addressed by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and other high-ranking officials.
