- Story Text: A shipment of 60 mortars, impounded aboard a British airliner by the Uganda Government, was yesterday (Monday) inspected by a three-man Zambian delegation to determine whether the arms belonged to the Zambian Government.
It's nearly two weeks since the weapons and the British Overseas Airways Corporation VC-10 carrying them were seized by the Uganda authorities. It was stated at the time that the arms shipment was not shown on the flight manifest.
After the Zambian delegation had inspected the weapons yesterday, they said they had no authority to confirm whether or not they belonged to the Zambian government. Until such confirmation is officially made, the Ugandan authorities say they will not release the aircraft.
