  • Story Text: Israel's Prime Minister, Mr. Yitzhak Rabin, had talks lasting into the early hours of Friday morning (2 July) with the ministerial team which is handling the negotiations over the Israeli hostages held by pro-Palestinian hi-jackers in Uganda. The six man team has been given full Cabinet support to negotiate over the hi-jackers' demands for the release of 40 convicted Palestinians and sympathizers held in Israel, in exchange for the release of the Israeli hostages.

    SYNOPSIS: Meanwhile, one hundred of the passengers who were released by the hi-jackers from the Air France Boeing 707, arrived in Paris from Entebbe early the same morning.

    They followed a first batch of 46 hostages who had been flown to France on Thursday. All of them returned safe and unharmed.

    The passengers said on arrival in Paris that two of the hi-jackers were German, and one of them was a woman. A Brazilian man said that none of the hi-jackers were South American. A man from Los Angeles said there were 112 hostages still left at Entebbe, and their spirits were amazingly high. For one elderly Frenchman, it had been the first time he'd flown.

    The passengers had been held under threat of death at Entebbe Airport since Monday morning. They were freed when Israel announced that it was willing to negotiate with the hi-jackers through France. The remaining hostages are Israelis, people with dual nationality, and the crew of the Air France air bus.

    The plane was hi-jacked over Greece on Sunday, during a flight from Tel Aviv to Paris. The hi-jackers demanded the release of 53 named prisoners from jails in five countries, including 40 held in Israel. Otherwise they would kill the hostages.
