  • Story Text: Hollywood actress Sharon Stone attended a peace workshop for Israeli and Palestinian children on Thursday (March 9, 2006) in Holon in Israel.
    Stone, who is on a five day visit to the region, has attended several peace conferences and workshops over the last three days.
    Her visit, which coincided with Women's Day on Wednesday (March 8) was sponsored by the Peres Centre for Peace, founded by Nobel Peace laureate Shimon Peres.
    It is Stone's first visit to the region.
    Stone, best known for her role in 1992's 'Basic Instinct', told a news conference on Wednesday that she could not solve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians but that she could use her fame to help encourage peace efforts.
    During her visit, Stone played football with a mixed group of Israeli and Palestinian children on Wednesday and later visited Israeli hospitals that care for Palestinian children.
    The actress will celebrate her 48th birthday on Friday (March 10) with a fund raising gala to aid children's educational and health projects.
