- Story Text: Israeli forces detained several Palestinian men on Thursday (April 3) during a small-scale ground operation in southern Gaza, according to witnesses.
The men were led blind-folded from the town of Khan Younis to a military camp on the Gaza-Israel border for questioning.
Earlier on Thursday, Israeli troops had wounded several Palestinian militants and civilians in a raid on the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. An Israeli army spokeswoman said soldiers operating near the southern town of Khan Younis shot several gunmen. She had no information on their condition.
According to medical officials and residents in the area, two militants from the Islamic Jihad group were wounded and five civilians were hurt by the Israeli gunfire.
Israel pulled troops and settlers out of Gaza in 2005 but still controls its borders, a situation Palestinians and international bodies say means Israel remains an occupying force and must observe Geneva Convention obligations. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
