- Story Text: Israeli scientists say they developed a better, cleaner and cheaper petroleum which can be used in all types of vehicles and engines.
Located in Nativ Ha'asara, a southern Israeli community on the border with Gaza, company Clean Motors Corporation says it had developed an improved fuel, comprised of water, methanol and two additional percentage of secret components which they refuse to reveal.
"These (components) construct hydrogen. It is 60 percent water, 38 percent Methanol and two percent acid," said company Director Doctor Moshe Lerner, while standing next to big tanks filled with the special petroleum.
The hydrogen is known for its ability to speed up the combustion velocity of an engine and increase its efficiency while reducing pollution, explains Professor Eran Sher of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Israel's Ben Gurion University in Be'ersheva.
"They use alcoholic fuel, beside a regular fuel... while the alcoholic fuel is broken down into hydrogen by using the heat released by the exhaust gas. So they use part of the exhaust gas to produce another fuel, maybe more energetic fuel...and when they introduce the hydrogen into the regular fuel then the combustion becomes much more efficient, much more faster and less pollutants," said Sher.
The company's innovation, he said, is to integrate computer and control technology with fuel breakdown ethnology and then implement it on engines. The result is a lower fuel consumption, increased efficiency and a reduction in pollution, Sher added.
In order to break into bigger markets, the company, established by four Russian-born who immigrated to Israel, invented an automatic system which is operated by a computer.
They say the result is an environmental-friendly, cleaner and fully automatic fuel system which increases the engine's power and acceleration.
"First and foremost (the system enhances) the quality of the environment. It reaches 80 to 90 percent of cleaning of toxic gas. It means a full combustion. Secondly, (it provides) more energy up to 40 percent.
Thirdly, it can work with all types of petrol," Said Lerner.
A piece of white paper attached to a Clean Motors vehicle's exhaust came out clean while the same paper, attached to a regular diesel exhaust was stained with black soot.
Lerner said the system is currently sold in the U.S. and Australia for approximately 1200 U.S. dollars per unit. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
