- Story Text: Israelis gathered on the border with Lebanon on Wednesday (October 13) to protest against the visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Lebanon.
The protesters covered part of the border fence with signs reading 'Ahmadinejad the new Hitler', 'Wake up Assad, Ahmadinejad is on his way to Damascus' and released blue and white balloons -- colours of the Israeli flag -- over the border.
Israeli Deputy Minister Ayoob Kara, who attended the protest, said Ahmadinejad's visit could hinder the peace process.
"We are with Israel, we support the democracy in Israel, and our love to the people. We hope his (Ahmadinejad) presence here will not be an obstacle to the peace process, we want peace we want love between all the nations. His presence here is an obstacle to the peace process and (an effort) to control Lebanon and to have a Persian empire in the Arab world," Kara said.
Ahmadinejad arrived in Lebanon for a two day visit earlier on Wednesday. He held talks in Beirut in the first official visit by an Iranian president, which has highlighted the growing power of Tehran's Shi'ite ally, Hezbollah. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
