  • Story Text: Two ships collide at night near Haifa, Israel port. One ship sinks.
    Rescuers search for two crew members who are missing.

    A fishing boat sank off the Israeli coast after colliding with a passenger ship on Thursday night (August 30), and two crew members were missing at sea, Israel's Magen
    David Adom ambulance service said.
    It said 12 other people who had been on the fishing boat were rescued in the incident near Haifa port.
    An Israeli military spokesman said helicopters had been scrambled to help in the search and the navy was on standby.
    At the port in Haifa, illumination flares lit up the night sky, as helicopters hovered near the collision site.
    Crew members rescued from the sunken ship said they were awaken when the collision occurred.
    Indonesian crew member Saban Stayatmoko described how he felt the collision and then grabbed a lifejacket and jumped overboard.
    Israel Radio said the collision appeared to have been an accident and that one of the vessels involved was registered in China.
    A Slovenian member of the crew told how he was asleep when the alarm was sounded, saw the other ship and then took to a liferaft.
