- Story Text: Visitors to the world's largest photography fair got a special treat on Tuesday (September 21).
They were the first ones to watch the first ever undewater broadcast in high definition, live from the depths of Israel's Red Sea.
Sharon Rainis, an underwater photographer and producer for Epson Red Sea project said that over 30 people worked day and night to orchestrate the event which was shown at "Photokina" exhibition in Cologne, Germany.
"We're about 30 people producing this in the production of this live broadcast. About 30 people, they consist of a satellite team and divers of course that arrange the scenes underwater. We have a live broadcaster and we have an editor and a director, we have videographers, one videographer from Hungary and one videographer from Israel. Basically we have lots of people working around the clock, writing, editing, filming," she said.
Shlomo Cohen, an artist whose works comprised the underwater exhibition said that it would be his first time diving.
"I'm going to dive (for the) first time, first time experience, in an underwater exhibition of my illustrations and drawings which I did a long time ago and I'm going to dive there and it's going to be transmit (transmitted) directly to the Photokina and I'll be interviewed, people will ask me questions, I'll try to explain as good as I can underwater and that's the experience we're going to do," he said.
In Cologne, organisers were happy with the transmission but said there were areas that needed improvement.
"The guy underwater had some problems with hearing us from here but we are going to get it (improved) over the next few days so that our presenter underwater will hear us better," said Israeli photographer David Pilosof, "Epson's" web team competition producer.
More live underwater HD broadcasts from the Red Sea are scheduled to air at the exhibition on Wednesday (September 22) and Thursday (September 23). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
