- Story Text: Four protesters were killed and 11 wounded in a shooting incident at the Lebanese-Israeli border where Palestinians were demonstrating on Sunday (May 15), security sources said.
Reuters cameraman Ezzat Baltaji said he filmed three dead bodies.
Israeli forces had fired in the air to repel Palestinians demonstrating and the Lebanese army fired in an attempt to stop protesters from reaching the border.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians from across Lebanon were rallying near the border to mark Nakba Day, calling for the right return of Palestinian refugees to Palestinian Territories.
'Nakba' is the Palestinian word for catastrophe and the annual event marks the anniversary of Israel's founding in a 1948 war, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled or were forced to leave their homes.
There are some 360,000 Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon in 12 camps, according to statistics by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
