- Story Text: White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, toured northern Israel on Monday (May 24), during a private visit to the region.
Emanuel, who was a key adviser to former U.S. President Bill Clinton, is the son of an Israeli emigrant to America.
Israeli media reported that Emanuel and his family were there to celebrate their son's Barmitzvah in Jerusalem.
It was unclear whether Emanuel planned to meet Israeli officials during his stay.
The chief of staff position is a top White House appointee who serves as one of the closest advisers to the president and typically can decide who gains access to the president, while also developing administration policies.
Emanuel, like U.S President Barack Obama, is a Chicagoan who is close to Obama and to many members of his inner circle. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
