  • Story Text: Scores of beauties strutted down the stage in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba on Saturday (December 19), in what has long ago turned to Israel's "biggest" fashion event.
    The annual "Fat and Beautiful" beauty pageant, taking place for the 14th year, proves every time that beauty can be found in various sizes and shapes.
    Contestants came from all over Israel, with weights fluctuating between the minimum required entry weight of 80kg (176lbs), to 120kg (264lbs) of some of the larger women. All participants seemed happy with their bodies, and were not afraid to even eat pastries just before the show. Participants took the stage with casual wear and evening gowns, with the all-important swimsuit contest conspicuously missing.
    Yarin Swissa, a 25 year-old contestant from the southern Israeli city of Eilat, said that fat women are truly beautiful.
    "I think it's very nice and very beautiful that the fat women, they are very very beautiful. They are not that skinny one and this is a true beauty of a woman," Swissa told Reuters Television backstage.
    Director and Producer of the pageant, Yair Nagid, said that a beautiful lady is always beautiful, no matter if she is fat or thin.
    The night's winner was 22-year old Moran Baranes from the southern Israeli city of Beersheba. The 93kg (205 pound) beauty works as a security guard, and loves to paint and dance. She was awarded jewellery, cosmetic products, annual subscription for a gym and a trip abroad.
