- Story Text: Palestinian militants launch Qassam rockets into southern Israel as tension across Israel's border with Gaza grows.
Palestinian militants launched a Qassam rocket into the southern Israeli town of Sderot on Saturday (May 5), causing damage but no injuries.
The rocket hit a building in a residential neighbourhood and damaged its roof.
Tensions have been running high in the Gaza Strip, particularly since Hamas's armed wing resumed firing rockets at Israel late last month.
An Israeli army spokesman told Reuters that more than 200 missiles have been fired by Gaza militants since Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in November 2006. Other militant organisations did not agree to the ceasefire and have continue to fire makeshift rockets into southern Israel. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
