- Story Text: Israel's current Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni says she's confident of victory in the country's general election.
After casting her vote on Tuesday (February 10) the leader of Israel's centrist Kadima party joined supporters in the town of Ramat Gan.
Pollsters say the result is too close to call, with right-wing opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu bidding to oust Livni.
But the 50-year-old, formerly of the Mossad intelligence agency, is certain she'll be voted in as the first female prime minister since Golda Meir in the 1970s.
Her two main rivals, Netanyahu, who's 59, a former finance minister, and Ehud Barak, 66, a former general, have both served previously as premiers.
More than five million people are eligible to cast their ballots at 9,000 polling stations.
But the campaign has generated little enthusiasm and a cold wet day has increased the possibility of a low turnout. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
