- Story Text: Israeli troops continued to mass near the Israeli - Lebanese border early on Thursday (July 27) as the army pressed an offensive to drive Hizbollah guerrillas away from the border.
Troops, tanks, helicopters, artillery and medical supplies arrived at Israel's northern border to support the troops fighting on the Lebanese side of the border.
Hizbollah guerrillas killed nine Israeli soldiers in Lebanon on Wednesday (July 26) in fierce fighting set to continue after diplomats in Rome failed to agree on calling for an immediate end to the 15-day-old war.
But the fighting has to date, not stopped Hizbollah rocket attacks. More than 125 missiles hit port of Haifa and other parts of northern Israel Wednesday, wounding dozens of people.
In Lebanon, Israeli bombing has forced an estimated 750,000 people to flee their homes. Many are still trapped in war zones.
The conflict has killed at least 420 people in Lebanon and 50 Israelis. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
