- Story Text: Singer Leonard Cohen on Wednesday (September 23) held rehearsal ahead of his concert in Israel, which will be held in a large stadium at the Israeli city of Ramat Gan on Thursday (September 24).
Cohen's much expected performance in Israel is due to take place despite his collapse during a concert in Spain last Friday (September 18), after which he was rushed to hospital.
His manager later told media that the singer had suffered a bout of food poisoning but had been reluctant to abandon the show.
Cohen was released from hospital and was said to be recovering well at his hotel over the weekend.
The Canadian singer, who turned 75 on Monday (September 21), has been on tour since May, performing in Canada, Europe, New Zealand and Australia, after coming out of retirement.
He quit the music scene in the early 1990s and became a Buddhist monk but was forced out of retirement five years ago after losing his savings.
He rose to fame in the 1960s with songs about sex, faith and betrayal performed in a deep baritone he once described in a song as "the gift of a golden voice." His best-known song, "Suzanne," was a hit for Judy Collins. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
