- Story Text: The French lawyers of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, captured by the Hamas in 2006, say they will head for Gaza Strip to meet Hamas representatives at the beginning of March.
Lawyers representing Franco-Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was abducted by Hamas gunmen in the Gaza Strip in June 2006, gave evidence that he was still alive by sending a letter to his relatives few weeks ago.
French lawyers Emmanuel Altit and Stephane Zerbib announced on Tuesday (February 26) that they will travel to the Gaza Strip to discuss the situation with Hamas representatives.
"We have this letter that we were talking about a while ago. It is a letter that was sent a few weeks ago by Hamas, a letter from Gilad Shalit to his family," said Altit.
"They assure us that he is in good health, he is alive and that is the most important. As long as Hamas shows some kind of good-will, we have established a dialogue with some of the people in charge of course. This dialogue led to an official invitation by those people addressed to Stephane Zerbib and myself so that we go to Gaza to meet them."
The lawyers also hoping that they will be able to see Gilad Shalit, who was captured more than a year and a half ago.
Corporal Shalit, a 21-year-old soldier who served in a tank unit as part of his compulsory military service, was snatched by gunmen in a raid against army positions along the Gaza-Israeli border.
