- Story Text: Protests were held in Argentina and Venezuela on Wednesday (November 21) to condemn Israel's recent attacks on the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 150 Palestinians.
In Buenos Aires, angry protesters waved placards and burned Israeli flags to express anger over this week's air strikes that devastated sections of Gaza City.
"They are brutally attacking the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip. There have already been reports of more than 170 victims, and a large number of them defenceless children," said Tilda Rabi, representing the Palestinian community in Argentina.
Demonstrations were also held in Caracas' Plaza Bolivar to denounce the past eight days of violence.
"We are here, as part of a popular movement, demanding an international blockade from the communities of the world, from the governments of the world, so that they take a stand and create an economic, cultural and political blockade against Israel," said Hindu Anderi, a Palestinian journalist living in Venezuela.
Nur Dahabi, another Palestinian residing in Caracas, also came out to voice her disapproval of the Israeli attacks.
"It is not only, as they say, a fight between a guerilla group, between Hamas and the Israeli army, but directly against civilians, children, the elderly, pregnant women," said Dahabi.
An Egyptian brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was announced on Wednesday (November 21) and went into effect at 19.00 GMT.
Both sides are looking for more than a return to the sporadic calm that has prevailed across the blockaded enclave since Israel ended a much bloodier air and ground offensive four years ago that left over 1400 Palestinians dead. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
