- Story Text: Israelis build models to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim from recycled materials to be friendly to the environment.
Israelis celebrated the Jewish holiday of Purim on Saturday (February 23) in an Eco-carnival where they build all of the models from recycled material.
In the Israeli city of Negev people gathered in groups each group with a different model to celebrate Purim parade.
Packed with adults and children who are dressed in colourful costumes people were dancing and touring the streets.
"Basically we are having a parade for Purim which is a holiday and we all are dressed up. We prepare for it for (since) a long time, it took us about I think two months, it is a lot of work but now we just are dancing and soon we are going to start walking," said Alex one of the celebration organisers.
Using recycled products the organisers built many models of animals and other characters for the celebration.
"Well, it is all from recycled products i mean we take, we go to the recycling bins and we take papers and news papers and all sorts of stuff and then with that we built it, and then afterward when we tear up parts we will recycle it again," added Alex.
Purim is a festive Jewish holiday that commemorates the Biblical downfall of Haman who preached the destruction of the Jewish people in Persia.
Purim is not a public holiday in Israel, but many offices, shops, and public institutions operate on a reduced basis. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
