  • Story Text: Canada's top soldier was welcomed to Israel on Sunday (April 21) in an official military ceremony at the Israeli Defence ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv.
    General Thomas J. Lawson was walking the red carpet along his Israeli counterpart Lieutenant-general Benny Gantz.
    The general's visit to Israel comes shortly after a visit by Canada's Foreign Minister John Baird, in which he met Israeli and Palestinian leadership to discuss regional issues.
    During Baird's visit, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has referred to Canada as "a great friend and ally of Israel".
